Her mother, a servant who had become pregnant with a “shamba boy”, had abandoned Grace because she was born with albinism, considered a bad omen in many traditional, east African cultures. After hearing her grandparents discuss selling her, where her body parts would be used for witchcraft, Grace decided to escape. She was found by a crew of sugarcane cutters and brought to Horizon. Today, Grace is thriving in her new home. She is naturally shy, but the days of hiding her face are far behind her: Grace has ambitions of becoming a high school teacher.
