HORIZON HOPE
HOPE ON THE HORIZON
THE LATEST UPDATES ON THE CORONAVIRUS
OUR GLOBAL FAMILY
The Horizon family spans across the world. From Kenya to Guatemala to Honduras. Due to swift governmental action and strict social distancing efforts, the overall cases in these countries are relatively low. There are zero cases in all of our micro communities. Many of these countries have taken different actions to ensure the spread is contained. Many have shut down their borders and suspended international flights to and from their countries.

COMMUNITY IMPACT
GIVING IN TIMES OF NEED
It’s not about the “me,” it’s about the “we.” While the Horizon children are our top priority, we cannot forget the surrounding communities that we are a part of. Our clinic in Honduras donated plastic lenses for eye protection, disposable latex gloves, disposable masks, disposable gowns, and cotton to the Siguatepeque municipality where it is located. The donations were delivered to the City Committee for Emergencies as a contribution to the COVID-19 crisis response. Additionally, there are zero cases yet in Siguatepeque, Honduras.
INSPIRING INNOVATION
MAKING MASKS FOR THE COMMUNITY
At Baba Nyumbani in Kenya, the kids are using their life skills to fill a need for masks within the Micro Community and surrounding community! Social worker, Esther, and Micro Community Manager, Walter approached the kids about creating masks. The purpose was to protect themselves and the staff from COVID-19 as the Government and the Ministry of Health demanded.
While the staff could have sourced these at a high cost, the youth and children saw an opportunity to cut cost and do something for themselves from the sewing skills they have learned at the Micro Community’s craft and learning center. They also decided to create their own brand and staff are selling at local markets. The proceeds will come back to the Micro Community to benefit the needs of the children as well as fund fun gifts for the children as a token of appreciation!

UNEXPECTED GIFTS
DONATIONS FROM OUTSIDE ORGANIZATIONS
DINAF (Directorate for Children, Youth and Family) reached out to La Providencia in Honduras with a food donation from Nestle including: cereal boxes, chicken broth and soup. Micro Community Manager, Henry traveled to a local community to pick up this special donation!
UNICEF donated personal sanitation items to Maono Light in Kenya. Micro Community Manager, Paulyne, received the donation outside the gates of Maono Light-following social distancing guidelines.
